Using Op-Eds focused on Midwest Issues to Build Student Agency
April 14 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Science outreach and communication is a critical way to improve climate literacy and advocacy for evidence-based, and community-informed climate decision-making. Students might build skills through assignments and co-curricular events that feature writing op-eds, postcards, or developing social media campaigns. In this workshop you will learn strategies for writing effective op-eds, discuss climate stories that might resonate with Midwest communities, and share ideas on how you will include an op-ed activity to your class or campus work. Incorporating op-eds into your education effort helps diversify who participates in climate action, amplifying students voice. This workshop is informed by ideas from The Op-Ed Project, an organization actively increasing the number of underrepresented thinkers who are claiming a public voice.
