River Clean-up & Dock Bash
April 17 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pmFree
Meet up and team up at the Riverboats at the Gateway Arch to help clean up the St. Louis Riverfront!
9 billion tons of trash end up in the ocean every year. In fact, the Mighty Mississippi River is one of the largest sources of oceanic plastic debris. But with YOUR help, we can minimize our environmental footprint by collecting riverside trash and keeping the riverfront clean.
We’ve partnered with our friends at Great Rivers Greenway, Gateway Arch Park Foundation, Explore St. Louis, the National Park Service and Living Lands & Waters to organize a community trash pick-up event on the first day of spring, Saturday, March 20. Recruit your friends and family members and join us in lending a helping hand and cleaning up the riverfront!
All volunteers will receive a swag bag courtesy of Great Rivers Greenway and Living Lands & Waters, as well as complimentary vouchers to a St. Louis Riverfront Cruise.
After the clean-up, rest and relax on the riverboats’ dock with live music, food trucks and drink specials.
This event is one of several featured events this spring, showcasing partners involved with the Mississippi River Plastic Pollution Initiative, a large-scale citizen science debris tracking project . Under the leadership of the Mississippi River Cities and Towns Initiative (MRCTI), the mayors of the Mississippi River in partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme, National Geographic Society and the University of Georgia have launched this initiative to combat plastic pollution along one of the world’s greatest waterways.
