2016 MOGSEE Conference Mash-up

2016 Missouri Green Schools and Environmental Education Conference in Springfield

The conference opened with a tour of the Watershed Center and Valley Water Mill Park on Friday afternoon. In the evening we gathered for pizza and a documentary about Aldo Leopold "Green Fire".

Saturday morning, State Meteorologist Pat Guinan laid out Missouri's past climate history and shared what the models predict for the future. The Keynote was given by GLADE graduates Brooke Widmar and Zack Morris who shared the impact that the leadership academy had on their plans for the future.

Sessions covered the new learning standards, place-based education, inspiring wonder in students, using PLT to celebrate Ozarks culture, assessing programs, the connection betwee population and climate, early Ozarks explorer Henry Rowe Schoolcraft, finding sinkholes and a panel on teaching in rural schools.

We wrapped up the afternoon with Table Talks on recycling, George Washington Carver, DNR's new Youth Education and Interpretation resources, toxic plastics in the Pacific (two teachers got a grant to study in Hawaii!), MEEA's EE Certification program, Missouri Master Naturalists and research on the impact of youth education in Missouri (they are looking for collaborators).
