Building a straw bale house at Milkweed Mercantile

Milkweed Mercantile in Rutledge (outside Kirksville) wins 2013 People and Planet Award from Green America. The Milkweed Mercantile has raised the “green” bar and is encouraging others to join us. Its strawbale-constructed, solar-and-wind-powered Inn, Café, and Store are located at Dancing Rabbit Ecovillage, a rural Missouri community demonstrating ecological sustainability, and one of the world's foremost experiments in real-world ecological living. The photo shows the construction of Milkweed Mercantile using straw bales.
